Travelogue: Australia – Local Flavor

When I travel, I always hope to take in a little of the local flavor. I have been here and week and I am not at all sure what the local flavor might be here in Australia. I have yet to see something calling itself an Australian restaurant.
In the area of the hotel there is no dearth of restaurants. There is a McDonald's, a KFC, a Dominos, and a Subway. None of which could be categorized as Australian fare; though here the McDonald's does serve a few Asian selections that they do not serve at home.

Apart from that, there are a half-dozen Chinese restaurants, a handful of Vietnamese places, some noodle shops, two steak places, a chicken place, an Italian place, and an assortment of coffee shops and bakeries. There is no shortage of places to go for a meal.

Heck, even the hotel (which isn't all that large, if it has a hundred rooms, I would be surprised), has a three different restaurants on the grounds. It also has a casino, though, so apparently this IS the nightlife here in Canberra.

When the weekend comes, in addition to getting out of town for a bit, I also plan to spend a day in town. I have been looking at brochures of places in town that look like interesting candidates for places to visit on the weekend. But for now, it is time to head down and have a bite to eat before work.

Wherever you are today, I hope that you will have the opportunity to enjoy the local flavor!
