Gymnastics

The Olympics Opening Ceremonies are not until tomorrow night and already the US has a promising contender in Gymnastics: Willard “Mitt” Romney is flipping and spinning with the best of them over there in London!

In the news today, it was reported that Mr. Romney, on a visit to the UK to demonstrate his prowess in the field of foreign affairs, insulted his hosts by granting an interview to NBC wherein he implied that London was less ready for the games than they might be. The following except from the interview, I feel shows he knows no more about how to handle International Relations than he does about NASCAR.

“It’s hard to know just how well it will turn out,” he said. “There are a few things that were disconcerting: the stories about the private security firm not having enough people, supposed strike of the immigration and customs officials, that obviously is not something which is encouraging.”
Romney, who took great pride in the local support and enthusiasm of volunteers in Salt Lake, also suggested it would be important for the British public to do the same.
“Do they come together and celebrate the Olympic moment?” he said. “That’s something which we only find out once the Games actually begin.”

Don’t we have enough problems with the general public going abroad with the idea that they know more than everybody else? Boris Johnson (the Mayor of London) and David Cameron (the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom) were quick to jump all over the comment and inform Mr. Romney that it is easy to hold an Olympics in some podunk berg, but that London is one of the largest, busiest cities in the world. It is not like they have a highway or two and practically no cars.

With his experience questioned, the candidate flipped faster than an eight-year-old Romanian girl. Saying how he was impressed with the preparation for the games. Does he not realize that his comments of the day before were recorded? The entire whole of reality is not an etch-a-sketch. You can’t just shake the world and have what you said yesterday go away. Just how stupid does he think everyone else is?

But if he is going to make this kind of a blunder in a country where he speaks the language, I can only imagine what he is going to say in Israel when he gets there next week! Stay tuned!

Wherever you are today I hope that your flexibility is limited only by your grounding in Reality.
