Finally Friday

This week has seemed interminable! I do not know why; sure, I have been busy, but it has not been that busy. Perhaps it is because this weekend is a long weekend and people have been out of the office.

Perhaps it is just because I want to have a weekend. I am looking forward to the weekend. Who knows! At least, the weekend is nearly upon us!

I hope that wherever you are today, you have something to look forward to today!

I know I have asked you this before, or you have blogged about it, so excuse the dumb question. :(

Do you observe/celebrate United States holidays or Great Britians?

Though I have not specifically stated it before, Michael, I know I have been asked before. Whether that was by you, I cannot say. It is certainly not "a dumb question." The answer is that I continue (as long as I am attached to the US Offices) to celebrate (professionally) the US Holidays.

Personally, I celebrate those US Holidays that I would normally commemorate back in the states. The ones that I would not commemorate there, I do not commemorate here. The Bank Holidays over here give me a chance to catch up/get ahead of the paperwork that being out of town entails.

For example, this past Monday was a bank holiday (I am writing this message on 30 August 2006) and I spent it getting paperwork done from my laptop in the lounge at The Villa. I have things to do that have nothing to do with the stated purpose of my trip over here (like my timesheets, expense reports and the self-evaluation that is due to my manager back in the states as part of the annual reviews). I feel it is better to work on this type of project outside normal business hours so as to not to detract from the hours I need to dedicate to this project.

Since, I can also not expect to take a holiday on days when the staff over here are expected to work (we do have time-tables to maintain) I have been taking my US Holidays in trade for days when I get back to the states to give me a day off to get recuperated from the travel.

I hope this has answered your question. Have a great day!
