From the Plains to the Hills

 The miles roll by easily on the plains. After crossing from Colorado into Wyoming, the landscape opens up into a vast expanse that stretches to every horizon.

The scenery begins to change as we press north through Wyoming,
with interesting buttes breaking the flat horizon.

It's a land of subtle beauty, where distant buttes and lone mountain peaks serve as your navigation markers for hours.

Laramie Peak was the last great landmark of the Rockies we'd see for a while, a final, hazy blue salute before we committed fully to the grasslands. Then, after hours of driving north and east, a new shape appears in the haze. It's not just another butte; it's the destination—the Black Hills of South Dakota, finally rising to greet us.
