There's a certain quiet satisfaction to the start of a road trip, especially one that begins at a leisurely pace. We're not trying to break any land speed records on this journey; the compass is simply pointed toward Rapid City, South Dakota.

The plan is to set up a base of operations there for a few days, allowing us to venture out and explore some of the national parks and monuments that dot the region. It’s a quick trip, as we need to be back home by Tuesday for another journey to Minnesota later in the week, but we intend to pack in as much scenery as we can. For now, it's just about the open road ahead.
Wherever you are today, I hope your road is rising to meet you.
