Defeated in Munich (What IS It With Germany!?)

For an unexpected evening in December,
the weather here in Bavaria is actually not that bad.

You simply cannot make this up. After being stranded in Frankfurt on the way to Romania, I am now spending another unplanned night in Germany on the way home. I am defeated, again.

The delay in Bucharest this morning had a cascading effect. The inbound Lufthansa crew had arrived so late due to yesterday's storms that they couldn't fly until noon. Our two-hour late departure almost completely erased my three-hour layover in Munich. The rest was done in by the slow procession of people on the plane and the odd layout of the gates at Munich.

I ran to my gate only to find the plane sealed and ready to push back. I had just missed it.

Two calls to make:

First to United to let them know about the change. I was on with a lovely agent all the way through the Travel Interruption queue and before I got the head of the line, they had arranged for me to have a hotel, and booked me on the earliest flight out for Denver tomorrow.

Then to home and let Tim know that I missed my plane. On top of everything the run between gates aggregated the pinched nerve in my back that I pulled on the way through Germany headed east last weekend! G-d! I want this trip to be over.

I think I'm done with German airports for a while. If I can avoid it, I am never flying through Germany again! The one small silver lining is that I'm now stuck in Bavaria for the night. Since my plans were made for me, I figured I might as well try a local dish I'd never heard of: Bavarian curry.

Wherever you are today, I hope your connections are smooth, but if they're not, I hope you at least find a good meal.
