Sometimes the best part of a journey isn't arriving at the destination, but how you choose to get there. On our way from Miami back toward Fort Lauderdale, we were faced with a choice: the efficient, multi-lane highway or the slow, scenic crawl up coastal Highway A1A. We chose the crawl.
It's been years since I took that route, and while it's far from the fastest way to travel, it is infinitely more interesting. The drive is a classic South Florida experience, with the Atlantic on one side and a constantly changing view of beaches, parks, and cityscapes on the other. It was an enjoyable detour, a reminder that sometimes the most memorable path is the one with more turns and a much lower speed limit.

Wherever you are today, I hope that your detours are as pleasant.
