The Zucchini Bread Critic

This Black-billed Magpie gives my
zucchini bread fail two wings up.

Not every kitchen experiment is a success. I recently baked a loaf of zucchini bread, but the rind on the squash turned out to be tough and woody, making the final product pretty unappealing for human consumption.

However, I hate to see food go to waste. So, I put the failed bread out on the backyard table to see if any of the local wildlife might be interested. I didn't have to wait long. An immediate taker arrived in the form of a very enthusiastic magpie. It seems my baking wasn't a complete failure after all; it just had a very specific, and very feathered, target audience.

Wherever you are today, I hope your small failures lead to someone else's delightful feast.
