Before the Sun on the Eastern Plains

With the dogs settled in for their own vacation, our eclipse road trip began in earnest with an early departure from Lakewood.

On the road before the sun. The adventure begins.

There's a special kind of peace on a highway in the pre-dawn dark, with the whole adventure stretching out ahead. As we headed east on I-70, the sky began to lighten, and a beautiful, slender crescent moon kept us company. Before long, the sun broke over the plains, officially kicking off the first full day of our journey to Arkansas.

The moon was our companion as the sky began to lighten.

One last look before the sun took over the show.

Sunrise over the eastern plains near Genoa.

Wherever you are today, I hope your journey has a beautiful beginning.
