While walking the dog this morning, I noticed that the
prairie dogs were unusually active. No wonder, it is a lovely day and they were
out there just reveling in the lovely day that we are having here in Lakewood!
Saga is getting placid in her old age. There was a time when
she would have taken great affront to the fact that all these interlopers were
building their homes on her parkland without her permission. She stared off
into the distance at them – or through them – with little more than a little
yip at them. It was sort of like seeing the queen reminding you that you are
staying in the country at her pleasure.
But it was enough to get the sentinel all up in arms! The
alarm was raised almost immediately upon our entering the part. The “peep,
peep, peep!” of the prairie dogs could be heard echoing off the buildings
behind us… it was almost musical. One brave soul even had the bravery to try to
stare me down. It didn’t work. Saga and I had our walk through the park,
ignoring the prairie dog boundaries and having a good time on a lovely morning.
I think that they have a lovely place to build their homes,
the park is growing green and lush as the spring wears on, but to not envy the
heat that the soil must build up as the sun beats down on them. The forecasts
for today call for temps in the upper eighties and not much in the way of
chance of rain! It’s gonna be a hot one folks, head for the pool!
Wherever you are today, I hope that you’re enjoying your
weekend.
