A Day of Birds and Broadcasting

I spotted this family of Sandhill Cranes shortly after I arrived in Orlando yesterday
—a pleasant surprise and a great welcoming committee.

After a wonderful dinner with my mentor last night, my second day in Orlando began with some unexpected natural beauty. The area around my hotel near the UCF campus was teeming with wildlife. It seems I had a welcoming committee of Sandhill Cranes upon arrival, and they, along with a few other local birds, were out again in the morning.

The next morning, the wildlife show continued with this striking
Muscovy Duck enjoying the quiet by the water.

The cranes were out again,
this one looking for an early breakfast right outside the hotel.

It's a different kind of morning traffic
when these tall locals decide to stroll through the neighborhood.

Later, I had the chance to visit the Nicholson School of Communication and Media's downtown campus. It's an impressive facility with a palpable creative energy, right down to the fun, interactive murals on the walls. From serene birdwatching to a vibrant academic space, it was a day of interesting contrasts.

They certainly know how to make a creative first impression at their downtown campus.
