Every seasoned traveler knows the feeling: that sinking realization that your meticulously planned schedule is about to be undone. My trip to Memphis began with just that—a delay.
Weather across the country had created a cascading effect, a domino-fall of late arrivals and pushed-back departures. This is exactly why I always prefer to fly first thing in the morning, to get ahead of the day's inevitable snags. But with limited direct flights on my preferred airline, this was the best I could do.
So what can you do but wait? Oh well. It turns out there was a silver lining to being stuck at the gate. As the delay stretched on, I was treated to a spectacular, stormy sunset over the Front Range. The view from the windows at Denver International Airport was a dramatic display of dark clouds giving way to a brilliant, golden blaze along the mountains. It wasn't the departure I'd planned, but it was a beautiful one.

Wherever your road leads you today, I hope the inevitable delays are as pleasant.
