A Long Day's Journey into Light

The day begins at "butt ugly early o'clock"
on the way to the airport.

Some travel days start at what can only be described as "butt ugly early o'clock." This was one of them, beginning with a dark, pre-dawn drive to the airport to catch the first flight out to Minnesota.

Waiting for departure as the
sun comes up over the Front Range.

The great advantage of such an early start, however, is arriving in Alexandria at a reasonable hour. It even left enough time for a swim and a much-needed nap before evening.

A few hours and a nap later,
a lovely autumn evening in Alexandria, MN.

That rest was crucial, because the day wasn't over. As darkness fell, we headed out to Runestone Park in Kensington in the hopes of catching a celestial spectacle, and we were not disappointed. The Aurora Borealis put on a breathtaking show, with curtains of green and red light shimmering in the northern sky. It was a truly magical experience and the perfect reward for a very long day of travel.

The show begins. The first faint signs of the
Aurora Borealis from Runestone Park.

The colors growing stronger as the display intensified.

The moon and the Northern Lights
putting on a spectacular celestial show.

A rare treat: catching the elusive red hues of the aurora.

Wherever your road takes you today, I hope the journey is as rewarding as the destination.
