A Quick Dash Up the Saddle

Sometimes, the best plan is simply having no plan at all. Finding myself with a rare free Sunday afternoon, the lure of the foothills became impossible to ignore. We traded the suburban sprawl of Lakewood for the winding curves of Lookout Mountain Road, eventually pulling into the lot at Windy Saddle Park.

The air was crisp, typical for a Colorado December, but the sun was doing its level best to keep things comfortable. From our vantage point near the summit of Mount Zion, the Front Range unfolded in a series of jagged, sun-drenched peaks. There were no epic stories to tell today—no wildlife encounters or harrowing climbs—just the steady rhythm of boots on dirt and the quiet satisfaction of reaching a high point. It was a simple, spontaneous reminder of why we live where we do; sometimes a quick drive "up the hill" is all the perspective one needs before the work week resets.

Wherever your travels may lead, I hope you find a moment of peace at the summit.
