here’s a special kind of excitement that builds in the driveway just before a trip. For a few days at the end of August, we decided to trade our usual roof for a canvas one, renting a pop-up camper for an escape to the mountains.

The destination was Mt. Evans, a Colorado giant we wanted to experience up close. At the time, there were whispers that its name would soon be changing, which gave the journey a feeling of visiting an old friend before they moved away. Here’s the beginning of it all: the careful dance of packing and preparation before hitting the road.
