Backyard Birdwatching

One of the simple joys of being home is watching the steady stream of visitors to our backyard bird feeders. We make an effort to keep them stocked with a good variety of seeds, nuts, and suet, and our feathered neighbors seem to appreciate the buffet.

It pays off with moments like this, when a truly striking bird like this Northern Flicker drops by for a meal. It's like having a front-row seat to a miniature nature documentary, right outside the window.

This handsome Northern (Common) Flicker
stopped by for a suet lunch this afternoon.

Wherever you are today, may you find a little pocket of wilderness right where you are.
