Really!?

Did anyone hear this week that a certain windbag from the right (he who is so pompous that if you look up "bloviate" in the dictionary you find his picture) has been attacking the first lady for being unfit?

Travelogue: Random Occurrences

It is a lovely Day here. I did slip on the ice on the way to get my mail this morning, but that was mostly because I wasn't looking where I was putting my feet. (By the way - I am fine… not injury.)

Travelogue: Observations

Some times I look at how people behave whilst traveling and just have to wonder what the hell they are thinking.

Travelogue: Orientation

One of the funniest things to happen last evening actually occurred before my friends arrived at Leicester Square. In preparation for the 2012 Olympics, there are construction projects going off all over the city. One of them (mysteriously) has closed Leicester Square.

Travelogue: Last Day-Last Night

It was a productive day at the office. I had a number of meetings getting myself ready to start a new spec that is branching me out to another of the areas of the system I am not terribly familiar with. The meetings were to get me brought up-to-speed so I can accomplish the task.

Travelogue: Coordination

It is not as if I had not known that this would happen. I was writing specs that were of a sort and complexity I had never written before, and in an area of the system I was unfamiliar with. It took ten rounds of revisions throughout the week, but before I left this evening, I had all the specs ready to deliver.

Travelogue: Tah-Dah!

I cannot claim to have done it alone. In fact, I could not have done it alone, but I loaded all of my assigned specs anywhere near this quickly. I was able to get into the specs in for review and get out of the office around half-six this evening.

Travelogue: Quiz Night

Ah! The pub Quiz Night! A staple of the British social night life! One of the local pubs (that I know of, there are more than a half-dozen of them within a mile of the hotel) had a quiz night tonight. I stopped in for dinner and to watch the fun.

Travelogue: Rain

While the trip has been a wet and cold one this far (…and why not!? This is London in the winter after all!), we have not had actual rain until today. It has been mostly heavy fogs and mists. This morning, the rain was coming down in sheets!

Travelogue: Camden Town

This morning, I made my way out from the hotel to Camden Town. It is a wonderfully tacky place full of curious shoppes that sell jewelry, shoes, leather clothing, tattoos, piercings, and all manner of artsy-fartsy stuff. The market that many people seem to thing is Camden, is such a small part of it; and I mean that quite literally!

Travelogue: A Tramp Through The Past

What a lovely day! Okay, so it was overcast, and oaky, it occasionally sprinkled a bit. But it was still a lovely day!

Travelogue: Wind

The wind has been howling past the windows all day today! This building is so noisy when the wind is gusting as much as it has been.

Travelogue: On The Cusp Of The Weekend

It has been a long and productive week! This time last week I was convinced that there was a mountain of work ahead of me; there was no way that I was ever going to be able to plow through all this by the middle of February. I am now feeling a bit more certain that it is possible.

Travelogue: Weather

It is cold and wet (well, misty) here in Maida Vale this evening. It has been cold and wet all day. But at least it is nowhere near as cold and wet as it is back home. Someone had mentioned that it was sub-zero (Fahrenheit) back in Denver. I checked the traffic cameras near my home this evening. I could not tell what the weather was like. There was a sheen of ice covering the cameras.

Travelogue: Long Hours

Lest you get the erroneous impression that it is all visiting pubs for Bacon and Brie Baguettes and Pints of ale, I feel I should probably point-out here that there is a lot of work that I get done while travelling.

Travelogue: It's A Small World

It is often said by the insiders in my industry that the industry has only about a hundred people in it. It only seems larger because we keep moving around. I have had many examples of this, but none as striking as the one that occurred about an hour ago.
